Utilita Performance of the Week: Crystal Palace

(Nominations include Premier League, EFL Championship, EFL League One, EFL League Two, WSL, and Women’s Championship fixtures)

The League Managers Association’s panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Chris Hughton, Rachel Yankey, Les Ferdinand, Clare Tomlinson, Dave Bassett, and Barry Fry has determined that the Utilita Performance of the Week Award should go to Crystal Palace for their performance against Liverpool on Sunday 14th April.

Crystal Palace manager, Oliver Glasner, will receive the Utilita Performance of the Week trophy.

 

Match Report

Ebere Eze’s early goal and an extraordinary team performance saw Crystal Palace emerge victorious at Anfield after a remarkable match full of chances for both sides.

After their European defeat to Atalanta on Thursday night, there was a palpable sense of tension around Anfield come kick-off – and it was a tension that Oliver Glasner’s Palace exploited.

The Eagles harried and harassed Liverpool in possession, prompting errors not often seen from a Jürgen Klopp side. The interplay between Michael Olise, Ebere Eze and Jean-Philippe Mateta was superb.

It is one thing applying pressure, but it is quite another to make it count, which is what the Eagles did at the Kop end. It was a fabulous team move, as Adam Wharton picked out Olise, who slid Tyrick Mitchell in behind. The left-back picked his head up and found Eze, unaccountably in acres of space just outside the six-yard box, who slotted home.
